The first Sewing Program (“Fashionably Sewber”) Summary Report for Charlford House. The sewing program at Charlford House has been going extremely well. We are pleased to report that classes have had full attendance every session, demonstrating strong progress and meaningful participant engagement. There has been a varying range of clients attend each class. To date, most participants completed the program’s introductory activity, the scrunchie – which helped build confidence, patience, and familiarity with sewing equipment and techniques.
Those that have been returning beyond the scrunchie project have advanced to creating project #2, the tote bags, allowing them to develop more complex skills including pattern cutting, measuring, stitching straight seams, and completing functional items from start to finish.
Next, Charlford House clients will progress to the creation of ribbon skirts (project #3), providing an opportunity for women to engage in more detailed sewing work while also fostering creativity, cultural connection, and personal expression.
Overall, Charlford’s Fashionably Sewber program has become a valuable therapeutic and vocational component of clients’ treatment experiences and recovery processes, promoting self-esteem, focus, teamwork, and the development of practical life skills in a supportive recovery environment. In summary, the class has been very successful, and the clients are incredibly happy with the projects they have made.

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
“Take your needle, my child, and work at your pattern; it will come out a rose by and by. Life is like that – one stitch at a time taken patiently and the pattern will come out all right like the embroidery.”
~ Oliver Wendell Holmes
Thank you to everyone at Charlford House and Together We Can for stewarding this important program! We added two more sewing machines in June, due to the success of the pilot program. Can’t wait to see the creations and confidence that comes from this program.
