In the spring of 2025, we began talking with Together We Can about bringing a sewing program to their Women’s Recovery Program. The offering was met with gratitude and a sense of partnership. It has been a smooth launch, and the program is now running weekly. Everyone at Together We Can, and Northstar Recovery has gone the extra mile to make sure these women know they are cared for.
Pilot Launch Summer 2025 Update
I wanted to send you a bit of a report on TWC’s sewing class, in partnership with RHF! I will tell you that it’s been a big success, both the Northstar clients and staff are thoroughly enjoying having the class as part of TWC’s programming schedule.
I am pleased to report that so far, the clients’ classes have focused on an intro to sewing basics, how to use the machines, making scrunchies, tote bags, and most recently, ribbon skirts.
Our instructor has been running a weekly 2-hour class at our Northstar Summit House on Monday afternoons.
Due to the program’s success, we are hoping to continue on with the program.

Winter 2025 Update.
The Northstar sewing program, dubbed “Fashionably Sewber”, since adding the additional machines. Class sizes now range from 9-12 women; we are so thrilled to accommodate more of our clients in the classes.
We have still been utilizing Laura as the program’s instructor, a design academy graduate, who is an impeccable fit for working with our population of vulnerable women.
We are working to standardize the sewing program, holding fast to the program’s project cycle.
The program cycle consists of 6 classes – we aim to have participants attend all 6 during their 90 days in our care. The classes are dedicated to the following projects/subject material:
Intro to sewing basics & hair scrunchie project
Introduce tote bag project
Completion of tote bag
Introduce ribbon skirt project
Ribbon skirt sewing is ongoing
Completion of ribbon skirt
The program is being fortified, and we look forward to refining it even more over the next 11 months.
A thousand times thank you for all the support, always, from all of us at TWC.
Thank you to everyone at Together We Can and Northstar Recovery for their time and dedication to getting this program up and running. This program is providing skills, life lessons, determination and confidence to these women as they start this new season in their lives.
