Christmas Lights, Community, and Recovery

2

What a joy it was to sponsor and support the Rotary Club of Tsawwassen’s “Christmas in the Park” this year! We were excited to support Diefenbaker Park’s beautiful Christmas light display, to decorate one of their large trees with the help of St. John Paul II Academy, and to host a craft  table at their opening night. Community and giving back are at the heart of what we do at Rick’s Heart Foundation, and the community of Tsawwassen, also our founder’s home, is dear to our hearts.

In the dark months of winter, there is nothing quite like the cheery lights of Christmas lighting up a parkway. That is why we partnered with the ROtary Club of Tsawwassen to light up Deifenbaker park’s many large trees.

Our foundation advocates for Recovery, and because of the great work of students and staff at St. John Paul II Academy, we were able to spread the message of “Hope in Recovery”. Decked out in handmade purple heart ornaments, with messages of “recovery is possible”, “opioid awareness”, and “community”, we hope to spread this message to those who need it most. A big thank you to the students and to Silveria who made the Recovery Tree possible!

On December 8th we hosted an ornament-creation craft table for the hundreds of kids and families who attended “Christmas in the Park. Creative minds crafted snowmen from marshmallows, twisted pipe cleaner candy canes, and used modge podge to transform plastic ornaments into ornament balls with fresh, holiday designs. Parents followed their kids around as they eagerly explored what the event had to offer, with the longest queue stretching from the Santa station.

“The park was packed, and the weather cooperated.  It was a great event.  We could pull this event off without the behind the scenes supporters like you.”   ~Rotary Club of Tsawwassen

“Hi Janae,  Good morning and happy Monday! I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to you and Rick for allowing the students from Saint John Paul II Academy to decorate the tree in partnership. The students had a wonderful time, and it provided us with an opportunity to discuss the important work that Rick Diamond does. We talked about why organizations like Rick’s Heart Foundation are instrumental in being part of the solution, especially in light of the lives lost and those still battling.”    ~Silveira Roselli, St. John Paul II Academy Foundation Board Member

Rick’s Heart Foundation was honored to support the Diefenbaker Park’s Christmas lights and the “Christmas in the Park” event this year. This event allowed us to bring joy and hope to the community through festive lights, creative crafts, and meaningful messages of recovery. Partnering with local students and organizations, we highlighted the importance of community and giving back. The event was a success, filled with holiday spirit and the shared goal of spreading cheer and awareness. We encourage you to get out to your local Christmas light display in your local park or shopping centre, and wish you a wonderful holiday season!
