City Dream Centre - Sew it program Quarterly Report: April - June 2025
We are so happy to support incredible programs like “Sew It” that reach people with applicable skills. Below, enjoy the latest update on this program from the City Dream Centre, and the lives it is reaching.

Program Overview – Spring Session (Q2 2025)
This spring session was both meaningful and highly successful. We ran two classes:
- Beginner Class (1.0)
- Advanced Class (2.0)
Beginner Class 1.0
This class is designed for women new to sewing and focuses on introducing the sewing machine, understanding sewing basics, and building foundational skills. The projects completed this quarter included:
- Pillowcases
- Cosmetic bags with zippers
- Tote bags
- Hairbands
All participants showed noticeable growth, and we were thrilled with their enthusiasm and rapid skill development. By the end of the course, the women had gained confidence in using the sewing machine and were able to complete their projects with pride and precision.
Advanced Class 2.0
This class is for women who previously completed the beginner course. The focus was on expanding sewing skills and diving deeper into theory and technique. This included:
- Working with more complex fabric
- Choosing appropriate fabric for specific projects
- Creating sewing patterns from scratch
- Transferring patterns, cutting fabric, and executing the full sewing process
The main project was a multi-pocket apron, and while fewer items were completed, the learning was deeper and more skill-intensive. This class encouraged creativity and independent thinking as the women explored the full design-to-completion process.

Impact on Recovery
Both classes continue to play an important role in the recovery journey of our participants. We witnessed incredible transformation—from hesitation in the first class to confidence and calm by the last. The women not only gained practical skills but also developed focus, patience, and self-assurance—key attributes in any recovery process. The camaraderie and supportive environment were truly heartwarming to observe.
Participant Feedback
Throughout the spring session, participants consistently expressed—both to our instructors and to City Dream Centre staff—how much they appreciate the Sew It course. Many shared how much fun they were having, not only during class but also while working on their own sewing projects back at the recovery home.
Thanks to the generous donation of a sewing machine to the house, the women have continued to practice their skills independently, working on personal projects and supporting each other along the way. Their enthusiasm is genuine—they absolutely love the program, and it has become a bright spot in their week and a valuable part of their healing journey.
Volunteer Appreciation
None of this would be possible without our amazing team of facilitators/volunteers. Their dedication, kindness, and passion make the Sew It program a safe, empowering, and joyful space. To show our gratitude, we hosted a volunteer appreciation lunch at a local restaurant—a small gesture to thank them for their big hearts.
Looking Ahead
We are deeply thankful for your continued support. Your generosity makes this program possible and allows us to make a real impact in the lives of women in recovery.
